The success of managers cannot be explained by different leadership philosophies, personalities or management styles. Rather, it is due to their inner "logic of action" - how managers assess their environment and react when their determination or reliability is called for. And yet relatively few executives try to understand their own logic of action, let alone change it.
If managers take the time to better understand and learn from their own personalities and their own development, they can not only improve their skills but also positively influence their performance in the company.
The seven leadership action levels
Changes and transformations can only be achieved from the level of the "individualist".
"Individualists" have realized that they can only change themselves. They question their own patterns, release obstructive assumptions and behavioral patterns, and empower their employees to get moving themselves.
Action Logic in % | Characteristics |
---|---|
Alchemist 1% | Creates social transformation. Integrates material, social and social transformation. |
Strategist 4% | Creates personal and organizational transformation. Peer Support. Mindfulness and vulnerability are essential leadership elements. |
Individualist 10% | Interweaves conflicting personal and organizational motivations. Works with tensions. Creates unique structures and a culture, in which gaps between strategy and performance closed. |
Achiever 30% | Oriented to strategic goals. Achieves effective goals with teams. Brings management tasks and market requirements at a hat. |
Expert 38% | Oriented to rules and expertise. Strives for rational efficiency. |
Diplomat 12% | Avoids open conflict. Wants to belong. Follows group norms. Rarely causes uproar. |
Opportunist 5% | Wants to win always . Self-centered. Manipulative. "Power makes powerful". |
The levels can be very powerful in the discussion, especially in change situations and when the underlying assumptions (Cognitive Behavior Theory) are built in.
