Cognitive Behaviour Theory

“Between stimulus and reaction lies a space. In this space lies our power to react. In our reaction lies our development and our freedom.”

Viktor Frankl

Cognitive Behaviour Theory

The "Cognitive Behaviour Theory" assumes that we cannot change anyone but ourselves. And not even that: we cannot adjust our behavior without getting to the underlying level of our assumptions.

So there is little point in trying to work on people's behaviour. It makes much more sense to talk to people about the assumptions that lead to this behaviour.

Awareness gives choice.

Only those who know their assumptions can question them, change them if necessary and open up perspectives that would otherwise remain hidden.

If the circle cannot be resolved, the following questions may help:

  1. What would happen if you stayed with your assumptions for the next two years?
  2. What would happen if you let go of your beliefs?
  3. What if you changed your beliefs to the opposite?
